Human Rights Defender Jan Cappelle has been subjected to multiple human rights violations:
• the local administration and Judiciary in Mbengwi Sub-Division wilfully produce false reports and statements
• criminalization and victimization
• attempted arrest and detention
• destruction of his resources (investments, farms, community development projects)
in retaliation because Mr Jan wants a better life for the traditional farming and nomadic livestock communities in Mbengwi Sub-Division, North West Region, Cameroon. He exposed land grabbing in Mbengwi. For their assist to Mr Jan, OFFGO members and supporters suffered harm through damages caused to them by local administrative and judicial authorities.
Institutions involved in the human rights violations: Divisional Office of Mbengwi Sub-Division, National Police (Special Branch) Mbengwi, State Prosecutor’s Office. These violations are committed by persons and authorities that are expected to protect individuals and their rights. These authorities have created an atmosphere of impunity which may give rise to further human rights violations.
